"How do I pay for the cleanup from my UST?
Oil & sludge removed.
copay3001002.jpg
The State Trust Fund does not reimburse the costs associated with the physical removal and disposal of the UST and its contents.

However, the Fund will reimburse, to an eligible tank owner, the costs for the excavation of contaminated soils, the transportation of those soils to a permitted disposal facility, the facility's disposal fees, the cost of backfilling the tank pit, the soil sample analytical costs, and the consultants time to manage the project, supervise the field work, collect the soil samples, and write the reports. The reimbursable portion of the tank closure project generally averages about $8,000 for a release from a home heating oil UST, although the costs could exceed $10,000 if leakage was severe.

Should additional assessment work be required, such as the Limited Site Assessment (LSA), the Trust Fund would continue to provide financial assistance.
"What if I don't have the cash on hand?"
Most property owners have some equity in their home, and therefore, at the time their property is sold, payment for the cleanup can be made. Unfortunately for some property owners, though, payment may not be possible.

SSE is prepared to financially help the responsible party pay for the cleanup by entering into a "Co-pay Agreement," whereby SSE essentially bills the State directly, awaiting on the Trust Fund to make payment for the services rendered. Or, SSE's client may pay a
portion of the cleanup cost and await for reimbursement from the Fund for the amount they could afford, while SSE waits for reimbursement of the remainder.
"Is there a fee for the Co-pay Agreement?"
At this time, NO. But because SSE must pay the subcontractors (costs for excavation, transportation, disposal of soils, and the laboratory) before a claim package can be submitted to the Trust Fund, SSE reserves the right to charge a modest finance fee. We would like our clients to at least cover the fees charged by our subcontractors, while SSE waits on the Trust Fund to reimburse our charges, which usually takes an average of about 8 to 10 months from the completion of the tank removal project.
Entering into a Co-pay Agreement with Sensible Solutions does not release
the client from his/her financial responsibility to pay for the services rendered.
Sensible Solutions completes the Trust Fund eligibility application and reimbursement claims for the tank owner.
