Client: Rose - Cary, NC
Sensible Solutions investigated the possibility of the presence of a UST on the owner's property. The home inspector reported a pipe sticking up behind the house and under the deck. Mr. Hosler probed the ground in the vicinity of the pipe, finding no evidence of a storage tank. No petroleum odors were evident when the unusual cap was removed from the pipe. The tile probe hit soft, clay-rich dirt when inserted into the pipe. The soil on the end of the probe had a clean, earthy odor. The furnace area and basement of the house were inspected for signs of fuel oil usage and none were found. While inspecting the plumbing beneath the kitchen sink, Mr. Hosler noticed that the connection of the sink drain to the drain pipe matched the suspect pipe cap connection. Above the suspect pipe, a hole had been cut in the deck floorboard. Because the suspect pipe was located so close to the foundation of the house, right below the hole in the deck, and adjacent to the outside wall of the kitchen, it was speculated that the suspect pipe had at one time been connected to a gray-water drain from the kitchen. Mr. Hosler also located the builder of the house and learned that the home had originally been heated with an electric system.

(336) 724-5022 In-place abandonment of UST.
Mark,
Thanks for a truly excellent job...and for all your detailed documentation. It will be most helpful.
Warm regards and much success.
p.s. - We will, of course, highly recommend your service.
The property owners spent considerable time and expense on landscaping their front yard. Rather than destroy their beautiful slate walkway, shrubbery, and trees, the owners decided to abandon the UST in-place.
The UST was located to the left of, and between, the tree and the house. When the job was complete, no one could tell that any work had been done that day.

In-place abandonment of UST.
Again, the property owners spent considerable time and expense on landscaping their yard. Rather than destroy their beautiful slate walkway, rock wall, shrubbery, and trees, the owners decided to abandon the UST in-place.
The UST was located to the left of the pressure washer. When the job was complete, no one could tell that any work had been done that day, except for a few wilted plants along the walk.
After cleanup.

March 2009 - a heating oil UST was removed from a Raleigh residence. The propery owner believed that he was ineligible for trust fund reimbursement because the tank was last used prior to November 8, 1984 and he could not locate the person who last used the tank. SSE investigated the property ownership history, did some searching, and found the former responsible party, who agreed to provide a limited power of attorney over the UST, thereby saving our client more than $5,000.
April 2009 - a heating oil UST was removed from a Durham residence. The propery owner believed that he was ineligible for trust fund reimbursement because he thought that the tank was last used prior to November 8, 1984 and the former responsible party was deceased. SSE called the natural gas company and found out that the gas line was run to the house in 1986, thereby saving our client more than $5,000. Not only that, but this is what the owner had to say about SSE's services: "...We were down this weekend, and were pleased to see how nice the yard looks after the tank removal. Thanks for a nice job."
